I am going to China this summer to learn Mandarin.
Also, Language has always been difficult for me.
If you are wondering what this blog is about, you just found out. I grew up with only one language and even that one was a pain to learn. when middle school started, I was reading at a 4th grade level. My mother, being the harsh genius that she is, decided that the way to solve this problem was to let me read as much as I wanted, but to disallow pretty much everything else. During one summer I went from a 4th grade to a 9th grade reading level, and read just about 7,000 pages worth of fantastic and often silly fantasy novels.
I did not do this because I wanted to. I did this because I literally had nothing else to do.
so now, with this strategy in mind, I prepare for a trip to China. A summer filled with travels and excitement and adventure, but also filled with only one thing, and that one thing to the bubbling brim.
